2022 Radio Industry Trends

Learn about trends in broadcasting industry in 2022

The broadcasting industry is changing rapidly, thanks to digital transformation and new technologies. While the traditional broadcasting industry is contracting, streaming services are booming. In addition, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) innovations are poised to have a major impact on the broadcasting industry in the next few years.

Broadcasting is experiencing a lot of changes right now. This can be attributed to the popularity of on-demand content and OTT services across all age groups. Let’s take a closer look at some of these trends:

Content is (still) king

With the development of technology, content has become as important as the product itself. Users are now more likely to spend time on websites with quality content, than on those with a nice design or logo.

It is important therefore to produce content that is both engaging and relevant, in order to gain the trust of your target audience.

When creating content, it is also important to ensure that it is original. While it may be tempting to simply copy and paste information from other sources, this will only damage your brand’s reputation. Instead, try to add a unique twist to your content by adding your own insights or stories.

Podcasting continues to gain in popularity

In 2022, the popularity of podcasting will continue to grow as more people discover the benefits of listening to podcasts. Listening to a podcast allows you to take control of your learning by listening whenever and wherever you like. You can learn while you commute, while you exercise, while you’re cleaning or cooking, while you’re relaxing or even sleeping!

In addition to being more convenient than traditional methods of learning, listening to a podcast can help you learn more effectively as your brain is free from distractions and free to focus on absorbing the knowledge being presented.

As more people discover the benefits of podcasting, more will start listening to them. For example, in a recent survey, only 10% of respondents said they listened to podcasts regularly. As more people start listening to them, competition for listeners will increase and podcasters will need to continue improving the quality of their shows if they want their podcasts to be successful.

Additionally, in 2022, we will likely see an increase in the number of businesses using podcast advertising agency as an effective means to reach potential customers. Research has shown that ads in podcasts are highly effective at reaching targeted audiences and are much less invasive than other forms of advertising such as pop-ups or banner ads. Businesses will quickly see the benefits of podcast advertising and begin using it as part of their marketing strategy.

Smart speaker adoption is ongoing

The smart speaker adoption is growing exponentially around the world. The smart speaker industry is expected to pass 84 million units by 2022. These numbers are according to a report by Zion Research, who interviewed more than 400 companies in the smart speaker industry. Growth is being driven by lower costs of smart speakers, improved voice recognition, and a growing selection of products.

Gen Z listens to the radio

The defining trait of Gen Z will be their unique view on old technology. As members of Gen Z get older, they’ll begin to understand the importance of things like radios. Does Gen Z listen to the radio in 2022? Similarly to others, Gen Z does listen to the radio when they are in their cars, walking down the street, in college dorms, while doing homework, at work–practically anywhere.

A recent study says that Generation Z are even more likely to listen to the radio than Millennials.

The study, conducted by Harris/Decima, shows that 30% of Gen Z listens to the radio every day, compared to 29% of Millennials. And, a whopping 72% of Gen Z listens to the radio at least once a week, compared with 67% of Millennials.
